One for Sorrow Wins Best Solo Game at the 2025 In-Hand Game Design Contest

I’m delighted that One for Sorrow has been awarded Best Solo Game in the 2025 In-Hand Game Design Contest! It’s an incredible honour and a lovely way to wrap up a creative and rewarding design journey.

This eerie little solitaire game about cursed magpies, shifting seasons, and a race against time also picked up several other awards:

🏆 Best Solo Game – 1st Place

🎨 Most Visually Appealing – 1st Place

👁 Best Graphic Design for Visually Impaired Players – 1st Place

🕊 Best Use of Theme – 1st Place

📖 Best Rulebook – 2nd Place

🖨 Best Low-Ink Printing – 2nd Place

🖐 Ease of Holding – 3rd Place

Seeing the game resonate with players and judges has been brilliant — especially in areas like accessibility, aesthetics, and thematic depth. Thanks to the contest organisers, co-hosts (especially CyBadger and Igor), playtesters, and everyone who supported the game throughout development.

You can still grab the free print-and-play version of One for Sorrow, and I’ll share more updates soon as I continue refining it for future opportunities.

Thanks again for all the magpie love,
Kev
