Welcome to the Monster Maker Academy, where aspiring creators compete to build the most extraordinary creatures! The grand showcase is here; only the most imaginative Monsterpiece will impress the judges: piece together eyes, tentacles, wings, horns and hats to bring your creation to life. Win awards for the most impressive features, avoid unwanted additions, and prove you have what it takes to be the Most Magnificent Monster Maker!

Objective

Across three rounds, players build monsters using different parts: eyes, tentacles, wings, horns, and hats. Each round features a unique set of trophies, one for each part type, and the criteria change each time. You might need the most horns, the fewest wings, or exactly three eyes.

At the end of the round, award trophies to the players whose monsters best match each Award category. After three rounds, the player with the most trophies wins!

Gameplay

Each round follows a Play → Pass → Pick cycle.

Play

• Choose one of your three pieces to add to your monster! Place it face up in front of you.

Pass

• Give one piece to each player on either side of you, one to the left and one to the right. Put these pieces face down onto their workbenches.
• Everyone does this simultaneously, so you’ll receive two pieces on your workbench.

Pick

• Pick up a face-down piece from the middle. You now have three monster pieces again.

Play > Pass > Pick

Repeat the cycle: Play > Pass > Pick until no pieces remain in the middle.

Ending the round

• When no pieces remain in the middle: From your hand of two, add one last piece to your Monster and discard the remaining one.
• Create your creature! Set a one-minute timer, and everyone creates the best-looking monster from their collected pieces.
• Storytime: Two trophies are available, one for the Monster’s Name and one for the Monster’s backstory. Players, in turn, tell the group more about their Monster to win these trophies.

After each round, review the Monsterpiece Award categories and award the trophy card to the winner. If players tie, they all receive a trophy - take the next face-down card of the corresponding trophy category.

Players then discuss and decide who wins the Monster Name and Story trophies. 

Next round

Collect all the pieces, including discarded ones, and set up the next round.

End of the game

At the end of the third round, add up everyone’s trophies. The player with the most trophies wins and becomes the Most Magnificent Monster Maker! In case of a tie, the players will share the victory!
